Our New Island Home! | Sybaritica

Well folks, subject to a few contingencies, it looks very much like we are going to be trading our home on the world’s fifth largest island (Baffin Island), for a much smaller one off the Fundy Bay coast of Nova Scotia.

Long Island is a short ferry ride from mainland Nova Scotia, the closest point being a little peninsula known as ‘Digby Neck’, shown at the top, right of the photograph above. To the southwest is Briar Island, which can be partially seen to the south-west.

Anyway, if everything pans out inspection-wise, Darlene will be heading down with our cats early next month but I will be staying on here in the North for a quite a little while. We still have our current house to sell (it took 8 months to sell our last one) and I have work booked at least as far as December…

Here is our house and barn… It sits on 8.5 acres, mostly cleared, and the barn is really terrific. Unfortunately, we are a kilometer or two from the shore and don’t have an ocean view, but the place is nicely secluded and should have great sea-air.

Darlene will be tackling some stuff that needs done for the first month or two and I hope to follow down for a visit soon thereafter. She will still need to travel back North occasionally in connection with her work and, once I do finally make the final move, I expect to be coming back to do ‘fly-in’ court-circuit work every couple of months or so. All that is still pretty much ‘up in the air’, of course, but I will keep you posted as things develop…
