Blogs worth looking at…. | Sybaritica

Rather than use a side-bar ‘blog roll’ on my main page, I have opted to devote a whole page to the blogs I follow or visit regularly, along with enough of a description to allow you to choose what best suits your interests…

Blogs about food and food related things…

A Teaspoon of Turmeric – Preena Chauhan introduces her readers to the world of Indian spices and cookery.

Backroad Journal – From New Hampshire. An ex-urbanite who now inhabits a 1730′s home with an apple orchard shares her culinary, horticultural, and travel experiences both New England and farther afield.

Bam’s Kitchen – Recipes for many international dishes but with a particular focus on Asian food. Lot’s of inspiration here…

BCFoodieBlogger – An eclectic assortment of recipes, reviews and interesting glimpses of food from both around the world and the author’s home in British Columbia.

Bites of Food History – Susan McLellan Plaisted shares her explorations in the ‘Experimental Archaeology of Food ‘. Recipes from yore and all sorts of interesting historical culinary information.

Blue Jellybeans – Giovanna publishes her blog from Madrid in both Spanish and English. She brings us lovely recipes that are always beautifully photographed.

Chowtimes – Ben and Suanne document their restaurant adventures in Vancouver and farther afield in China and elsewhere. Some recipes and travel photography as well.

Coolcookstyle – BaconBiscuit212, the lovely young lady who authors this blog, offers an eclectic mix of intresting recipes and food related articles but, more imprortantly, she is a great correspondent and someone you will definitely want to touch base with as an aspiring food blogger.

Food for thought – Great posts on food, recipes and travel by friendlytm. All sorts of things are covered but I especially enjoy the Chinese recipes. Great photographs.

Food Musings – Angie gives us a little bit of everything. Recipes from home and abroad… a great source of cooking ideas.

Foodtrail – Victor from Tasmania describes his blog as follows: ‘Foodtrail is about food for people who love eating food, experimenting with new and delicious ideas, and seeking that holiday destination. If you love food and travel, and love sharing your ideas and experiences then this is the place for you.’

Fuchsia Dunlop – Fuchsia is the author of three of my all time favorite cookbooks. Her blog features many great recipes and articles of great interest to food fanatics of all stripes but especially those who favor Chinese cuisine.

Gourmandistan – As authors Michelle and Steve put it: “Those entering Gourmandistan should be prepared to endure tales of farmers, farm shares, fancy and not so fancy restaurants and features of a good kitchen—as well as recipes, amateur food porn and scathing contempt for industrial food.” By the way … don’t bother looking for Gourmandistan on the map; it is three days past Middle Earth and just to the left of Narnia.

Nurul’s Culinary Adventures – Nurul is a Bangladeshi born British national who resides in Cambodia. His blog is brand new but looks to be well worth watching. I am looking forward to seeing more interesting posts on Cambodian cuisine.

One Man’s Meat – Fine fare with a dash of Irish blarney. Conor takes an interesting and sometimes humorous look at all sorts of food from simple hearty dishes to haut-cuisine. Heavy on the meat and plenty of sauce.

Ottawa Foodies – A site where like minded people can indulge their searches for good food in and around the Ottawa area.

Rubyzkitchen – Don’t let Ruby’s amateur status fool you. She takes simple ingredients and does wonderful things with them. She also has a terrific knack for ‘plating’ what she cooks in delightful ways.

Sinfully Spicy – Great recipes with magazine grade photography. Mostly Indian but more as well.

Stefan’s Gourmet Blog – A Dutch Blogger with a flair for Italian cuisine and more. Some high-end foodery, including sous-vide cooking, but lots of easier things for us mere mortals.

The Complete Cookbook – Mandy has not only published a cookbook, she blogs regularly with posts that include excellent recipes and plenty of useful tips and techniques.

The Scrumptious Pumpkin – Jen presents delicious home-style dishes that are always beautifuly presented with recipes that are easy to follow and accompanied by useful step-by-step pictures. I get lots of ideas here.

Three Clever Sisters – Sara, Karen and Marie share cookery and craft ideas. The food ranges from simple to exotic. Always good.

Urbanspoon –  This service categorerizes and provides reviews restaurants and food services by city. The format it has developed makes it far better than Yelp (in my humble opinion). Yours truly posts regular reviews here.

Blogs *not* about food or food related things…

Fear No Weebles – Want to get the low down on sexy dead chicks? Me too … I’d marry Madam Weebles but my wife says I’m not allowed to. I am, however, permitted to read her interesting (read, crazy) blog … and you should too!
