And… Hello New Kitchen! | Sybaritica

Well, the long anticipated move is finally over… at least in the sense that we are quit of the old premises, and living in the new abode. There is still however, a lot of work to do.

In a post a few weeks ago, I bid goodbye to the old kitchen and, for today’s post, I am very happy to be able to show you the new one. It is quite a disaster with boxes all over the place, as in this picture, but the kitchen, as far as I am concerned, was a priority when it came to unpacking, and I got started on the job right away…

And… this is what it looks like now.

I have to tell you that I am really pleased with my new cooking facilities. This kitchen is much lighter and airier than the old, and the island in the middle is really a very nice feature. I have a lot more storage place for all my equipment and foodstuffs, and the modern, ceramic-top stove is a huge improvement over the four-element job I was using before.

Another little bonus of the move was the little housewarming present my wife bought for me. A new barbecue is something I have been longing for, ever since my horrible grilling disaster of two summers ago. There isn’t a heck of a lot of summer left for outdoor cooking, unfortunately, but I will be assembling the thing in a day or two and then making the most of the barbecue season left to me. Posts, of course, will follow…

Well, as I say, there is still a lot of unpacking to do and, as you can see, not all the family members are pitching in … this one, named ‘Little Black Kitty’, decided gave up supervising the move and put her time to the best use possible.

Now, I know you are probably thinking that the above photograph was ‘staged’ but I assure you that LBK did this all by herself. She loves to get under blankets and so forth, and she discovered that she could actually climb inside the fitted cover for our bedroom quilt. Accordingly, we have got used to the experience of going into the room and finding a strange little bump smack-dab in the middle of the bed.

Usually, Little Black Kitty likes to be completely covered up but the piece of Caribou skin she found on this occasion was just a little too small for that. Still, she looks comfy enough, doesn’t she?

Well, anyway… now that the kitchen is unpacked I can get back to doing regular cooking posts again. On the day we moved in, one of our friends brought us two Arctic Char he just caught and I inaugurated the new kitchen by cooking up one of them for our supper last night. I’ll be showing you how I prepared the dish in a few days, or so.

Until then, more boxes await…
